Over the summer I wanted to start making jewelry, an entrepreneurial pursuit I was very unsure about. However, Kim and I worked together to come up with "Liana's Garden," a business combining my creative side with her flowers. It was a grueling trial and error process. After days of research, I had narrowed down which materials were best for my products. We agreed that the elegant "french hook" style was the most fitting, accompanied by minimalist earring shapes. By the end of the summer, I had mountains of books in my room containing varieties of flowers I had picked and dried for 2 weeks at a time. I set aside the whole afternoon to plan a batch (7-10 pairs) of unique designs and to mix my resin. Then, I wait at least 36 hours for them to cure so I can drill holes and add earring hooks. Mastering the fine art of jewelry pliers was an endeavor that never failed to irritate me. Nonetheless, I was thrilled with the final product--transforming locally grown flowers into fine jewelry!
